Using Guy Wires to correct the position of branches, thus avoiding wire scars
The lowest branch on the left of this Bonsai tree needs to be brought down a bit and it is too thick and established to respond to bending, it would quite probably snap. Use a guy-wire to bring it down.
First wrap some protective raffia or tape around the branch and then make a 'hook' with a thick piece of wire. This guy-wire can be attached to the bonsai pot, or if available, to a strong root.
Using a thin wire connect the branch with the root and carefully bend the branch downwards until you are satisfied with its position; twist the spare ends until it is tight and secure, trim off excess wire.
Be very careful to check on your tree regularly when it has been wired; you want to remove the wires before they grow into the branches making ugly scars.
